Thee Gifford was born on a cold and rainy day in Portland during a social ride with a group that calls themselves OMTM (Our Mother the Mountain). While socializing with some of the founders of OMTM we decided to partner our talents and create what we thought would be the ultimate OMTM all - road bike.
The owner was looking for a light responsive bike that he could ride all day on pavement or on gnarly trails!
The geometry is on the nimble side for those fast, twisting loamy trails of the Pacific Northwest. A custom segmented steel fork keeps the steering neutral so when a small handlebar bag is added the handling is not compromised.
The bike rolls on HiFi wheels with either Compass Switchback Hill 48mm or Schawble Thunderburt 2.25 tires with room for fenders.
Components are a mix of Shimano XT and Ultegra 11spd with hydro brakes.
Because this bike is meant for all day adventures it was fitted with a Beacon Sinwave headlight and a Nova E3 taillight. The headlight runs off a SON hub. The great thing about this headlight is that it can also charge small electronics. ie. Garmin.
We wanted the bike to be trail worthy so the rear taillight has been internally routed through the non-drive chainstay, keeping the lights wires tucked inside the tubing prevents torn wires from sticks and rocks.
Bottom bracket height is slightly higher in order to help keep the pedals from hitting roots and rocks.
If you like long all day rides on and off rode Thee Gifford is the bike for you. I can’t wait to have one myself!
If you have questions or would like to start a conversation about your version of Thee Gifford send me an email.
650b or 700c All - Road with Rocker Dropouts
This bike is being built to put rider and machine to the test.
The owner wanted the versatility to run his bike geared or as a single speed. We chose to use the Paragon Rocker Dropouts to solve this problem. By changing the inserts he can chose to run it geared or as a single speed.
This bike will have an internally routed rear brake housing to keep the bike looking clean.
700 X 42 or 650b X 2.25 can be fitted in the frame with fenders.
Cranks, hubs and bottom bracket are White Industries products.
It will be running a SRAM group with hydraulic brakes.
The owner of this bike did the DK200 this past year and smashed it! Can’t wait to see what he can do next year on his new Smeltzer!
650b All Road
Jeff uses his bike on the road and off the beaten path, during the sunlight hours or under the night sky. So for sure this was going to be a great build. Some of the highlights of the build include.
